Nostalgia can strike anytime. It is funny how some place or object can open up a memory that you would not have thought of for many months or years even. Some small things give you a blast from the past and it is not necessary that the memory is accompanied by the sadness associated with Nostalgia. Yesterday, while rummaging through a cabinet in a meeting room, I found this item which brought back a lot of memories from more than a decade ago. 1.44 MB used to be huge at a time. Hard to explain it to kids now, but that's the way it was. Wow, I am suddenly feeling old too. Anyways, I have real fond memories of booting up the 286 machine that belonged to my friend. One disk was used to bootup and then the next was used to load prince. Yep, prince of persia in DOS. We used to spend quite a bit time, just going through the limited commands on the boot disk and reading the help for these. It was tough to maintain these disks too. Kerala is pretty humid and if these disks were not...

Father's day 2010

Image
Others may have celebrated Fathers day on 20th of June this year according to the Gregorian calendar. But Father's day for me is today! The day I became a father for the first time. I can still feel the bliss I felt when I looked at my daughter for the first time and got to hold her. It has been 5 years now since the day but the thought of it still gets me smiling and all warm inside. Mashaallah. I was a little tensed up that day with some confusion going on at the hospital. (Well, that's another long story) And the doctor was moving my wife to the operation theater. My wife, as she is going, tells me that we should name her Taheyya if it is a girl. She just had that name pop in her mind and she liked it since it rhymed with my mother's nickname/ "ommana peeru". After about an hour and a little more, the nurse came out with my daughter wrapped in the white sheet. She was looking wide eyed and held a steady gaze at me. She was all pink and looked heavenly. The nu...

To Shanghai en-route at Hyderabad

Image
I shall be jotting down some of my experiences of my trip to Shanghai and/or other places in this eastern part of the world in these posts. I don't want to put up everything in one post since it would become very long and I would tire of writing it. My journey to Shanghai started out because a customer of the company wanted some features to be demonstrated as a proof of concept. So my colleague and I were sent in to perform the duty. The first part of the journey started when we took the Coimbatore to Hyderabad flight. The flight was en-route to Delhi and was almost full. The monsoon provided its fireworks in the form of lightening and the turbulence scared up my colleague, who is still trying to get used to air travel. He was thankfully able to find another seat away from the window! Our papers were being processed from Hyderabad and so we would be waiting here for 3-4 days for the Visa to arrive and our journey to begin. Although it fe...

adieu 2009

Last day of the year. It is dec 31st and the last post is only a good bye to 2009. Finally, I post in dec too! Bye bye 2009.  As with most other years, it was a good year! :) had somewhere around 31,556,926 seconds . Wonder how many seconds I wasted and how many were good moments. Do I remember all of them? Am sure not. So again good bye as 31 Dec 2009 ticks away and need to get used to 2010 on the calender. Have office tomorrow. Yeah, its a working day!

Two years since the Hajj trip

WOW! 2 years have flown past so very quickly! And I so very much, miss not being there. My bro-in-laws’, two for them,  would be at arafa today God willing. I am very happy for them. It had been one of the greatest moments of my life to have been on this journey. Hope to go back sometime again God willing. Some of the photos from the last trip is shared here. Hajj Trip dec 2007

How fast time flies

I have been trying to get a few snaps of my kids together. The problem is to get them in front of the camera. They want to be behind it! Every shot I take, they are on their toes trying to get to me to see how the photo came out. :) I just cannot get them to sit and pose. It was not like this with my elder one. A couple of years back, she would pose for the photos and would be really interested to be clicked. She was not concious of the camera and so taking the photos and videos were very easy compared to now. I like to take snaps and keep them. Not as to display, but it feels nice to take these snaps out and view them. It feels very nice to see the old snaps, of my parents and grand parents. I hope some day others will look at these snaps and enjoy them. Thats where I appreciate the digital world. So easy to store and share. It seems like so many years ago and yet just like yesterday. I am sure my parents would feel that same about me and my siblings. In fact, I am sure I have h...
